WHY – “Do It Scared” (Live) JUNO Awards Pianos Winnipeg
The 2014 JUNO AWARDS are in Winnipeg and WINNIPEG DOWNTOWN BIZ with the JUNO AWARDS had artists paint pianos and placed them all over the city for people to play to celebrate JUNOS and the musical spirit and history of Winnipeg.
Brian Cook (singer) and Eric Norquist(keyboardist) for Winnipeg Alt Rock Band WHY decided on a whim to go to MTS Centre (hosting The JUNO AWARDS) where there is a beautiful piano,and to Winnipeg Airport (where is is a piano at the arrivals gate that JUNOS artists signed) to play their single “Do It Scared” from their new album “The Leap” for unsuspecting patrons. It’s OFFICIAL WHY was invited by the ONE campaign (Non- Partisan Grassroots Movement For Poverty Justice, started by U2 singer BONO) to shoot a live low fi performance of Protest Song in a public location. WHY had short window to rehearse and shoot it. They had one rehearsal and shot it the next night atop to Historic MarlboroughHotel in Winnipeg. Fellow Winnipeg artist FLO joined WHY in this hit and run shoot, directors Caitlin Quigley(who shot Sean Quigley’s viral hit “Little Drummer Boy”) and Brittney McIntosh a were able to capture their performance of the Rolling Stones classic “Gimme Shelter”. WHY was the only Winnipeg,(Canadian Rock Band) asked to do this.
Other Artists Involved: U2, Green Day, Usher, Will.I.Am, Bruce Springsteen, Mumford and Sons with Elvis Costello, Sting, Ed Sheeran, Muse, Aerosmith, One Direction and more.
Monday WHY released the official video for their song “Weep”.
Directed by Caitlin Quigley, (who shot her brother Sean Quigley’s “Little Drummer Boy” viral video).
Video was shot over a month in Winnipeg secret location.
“It was hard to do as the playback we were playing and singing to was 50% faster than normal, to get that slow motion look. But our drummer Dave Bergmuller had it worst, playing that fast every shoot day which would be 6 hours straight.” recalled Brian Cook singer.
